| Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala says (Translation): (A great Punishment would have touched you for that which you had spoken): When you were spreading it with your tongues, and saying with your mouths that of which you had no knowledge; and you considered that to be insignificant, while with Allah it was something very great. And why did you not, when you heard it, say: It is not right for us to speak of this. Glory is to You (O Allah), this is a great false accusation. Allah advises you not to repeat this ever again, if you are believers. (An-Nur 24: 15-17) Note: These verses refer to an incident, when the hypocrites falsely propagated a slander against 'A'ishah Radiyallahu 'anha, at which some simple Muslims innocently began to spread the rumour. |
